DIVERS' HOTEL, Berenice Bay, Egypt - Planned as the first step in a multi-phase project at Berenice Bay on the Red Sea, the Divers' Hotel will host visitors keen to explore the deep (up to 100 meters) water of the Red Sea and their families. Because the Red Sea is home to over 200 types of coral, more than a thousand species of fish, and a similar number of invertebrates, the area is a destination for advanced divers from around the world. The divers’ hotel plan needed to be easy to construct, inexpensive to build, yet offer a high quality image for the start of the entire project. The center of the project is the Core Hotel, with individual Villas providing an option with a more Western ambience. A functional and traditional village will form around the hotel and villas with the traditional "souk" or street of vendors as well as parks and gathering places. Jack's experience in hotel design made him a key part of the team of four architects and planners responsible. Lead Architect was Duane Phillips, Duane Phillips Architecture of Berlin. Project by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ), a major urban planning practice headquartered at Miami.
